Joan served as L/WREN Boats Crew at HMS Mastodon (Exbury House, Hampshire).
War Service from 29th September 1943 to 15th Jan 1946
She was known to her many friends in the WRNS, including Gwengy, Anne and Mary, as Nick or Nicky and her time in the WRNS was some of the most important and memorable of her life, where lifelong friends were made.
A love of the sea endured her whole life and she became a lifelong supporter of the RNLI
Joan returned to Exbury for annual reunions and was very proud of the role she and her fellow Wrens played in the preparation and launch for the D-Day landings.
Throughout her long and full life Joan never lost her passion and enjoyment of living. She was compassionate, generous, loving, spirited and full of life.
What a wonderful woman! Joan will be sorely missed by all of us lucky enough to have known her.
