Jonni Berfield – Died 7th August 2026

Jonni was called up in 1942 and believe was one of only a few surviving female VJ Day veterans. Having begged her father to let her join when she was 18, she became a coder for the Royal Navy and was working in Plymouth when the Scharnhorst was sunk and she received the final signals. In her own words being in the Wrens was wonderful and the best thing she ever did.

Jonni’s funeral will be taking place at 12 noon on Monday 21st September at Slough Crematorium, Slough SL2 5AX.
