Falklands Benches Dedicated in AOW HQ Garden

On Tuesday 14 June a Service of Thanksgiving and Remembrance for those who lost their lives in the Falklands Conflict of 1982 was held in the beautiful church of St Ann’s, HMNB Portsmouth.

Lasting 74 days, the conflict was the first military action since WWII, resulting in the loss of 255 lives. The reading of the Roll of Honour was particularly moving as those who made the ultimate sacrifice to bring about freedom and liberation to the people of the Falkland Islands were remembered. Following the service two benches, one each for Portsmouth based ships HMS Coventry and HMS Sheffield, sited in the HQ garden were dedicated. Crosses for each of those lost from these two ships surrounded their respective benches.
