Gavin Campbell and  Prof. Dominic Murphy are asking our members for help with their research at Combat Stress.

They are currently conducting a study exploring how women former service personnel cope with challenging or stressful experiences.  They want to understand the coping skills and strategies that were used during their military careers and beyond.  It is hoped that the findings can inform how services and programmes can better harness women veterans’ skills and respond to their needs.  Any women veteran of the UK Armed Forces can take part.  Participation involves completing a series of online questionnaires and then an audio recorded interview with Gavin conducted online at a time convenient to the participant.

The current study is a collaboration between ourselves, the University of Bath, and Columbia University in the US.  It is funded by the Office for Veterans Affairs’ but is fully academically independent.

Gavin is most keen that the current study has strong tri-service representation, and therefore would very much like to ensure women who served in the Royal Navy are adequately represented amongst those taking part.

This work is the latest in their series of co-produced studies, professional training programmes, and policy recommendations into women veterans, their service experiences and mental health needs.  Details of this previous work can be accessed at: www.combatstress.org.uk/women-veterans-research
