The Cleethorpes Royal Naval Association has proudly unveiled a stunning new statue in Cleethorpes Pier Gardens, paying tribute to the brave personnel who have served in the Royal Navy.
The statue, expertly fabricated by Blackrow Engineering, based in Grimsby, features intricately designed reliefs of a Royal Navy sailor, a Women’s Royal Navy (WRNS) sailor, and the iconic “Yomper” Royal Marine, inspired by Peter Holdgate’s powerful image from the Falklands Conflict. Former Royal Marine Peter Robinson who was the subject of the “Yomper” image attended the unveiling ceremony, providing a poignant connection to the history being commemorated.
