VE Day 80: The Party – Thursday 8 May 2025 – Royal Albert Hall

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, leads the nation’s VE Day 80 celebrations, saluting ‘Our Greatest Generation’ with music, dance and first-hand stories of the wartime generation. Tickets for this wonderful event can still be purchased direct with The Royal Albert Hall www.veday80.org – We have two of our WW2 Veterans attending and giving content to this event, Ruth Barnwell and Betty Withers. It is fantastic that they are able to contribute and be there in person.

AOW vs RN Women’s Dev XV – Inaugural Walking Rugby Match – 9th April 2025
What an absolute HOOT! AOW 10 v 3 RN Senior Ladies. Although there may have been a pre-game team talk to take it easy. We couldn’t have asked for better weather, better supporters and a better bunch of ladies for today’s Walking Rugby Match.
Thank you to the RN Senior Women’s Rugby, Coach Jenks, Referee Lorry, Andrea Wrigley and Judy Simcock for making today happen. Thanks to all our members who played and came to support at HMS Temeraire.

Old Admiralty Building Room Renaming Event– We were thrilled to be invited by the Trade Historians Group to attend the small renaming event on Wednesday 30 April. The event is seeking to recognise the women of naval intelligence who worked in the Old Admiralty Building (OAB) and the adjacent Operational Intelligence Centre during WW2. We look forward to hearing all about the event and will encourage those attending to write an article for the Summer Wren.
