I joined the WRNS in 1976 – my home town was Stratford upon Avon – and was medically discharged in 2000. I was a Writer (Pay) and cross trained in 1988 to become a Writer, as the men were. I completed 22 years of service and then passed the interview board to become a Careers Advisor in 1998. Sadly discharged under medical grounds in 2000, I then went to work at RNBT, the RN charity. Retiring in 2016, I have been actively involved with the AOW, through branches and informal groups and becoming a Trustee in 2018. Married to a former Army WO PTI, who is now naval trained!
